Mary Barrett is with the Lord

Mary Barrett quietly and peacefully left this world and was welcomed into the arms of Jesus late evening on November 10th.  She was in a hospice facility for the last couple of days, as her cancer and pain worsened.  Now, she resides where there is no sickness, pain or suffering!

Continue to remember and pray for those closest to her loss, especially her husband, Joe, as he grieves for his bride of many years.  Pray also for Mary’s mom, and her church family and friends at Calvary Chapel Merritt Island, who are left behind to deal with the absence of her beautiful spirit, lovely smile and worshipful voice.

Information regarding a memorial service is pending at this time.  However, if you live in the Merritt Island region of Florida, check out this CC Merritt Island link for more information, or for details about a motorcycle memorial ride in her honour:

Though I only met Mary once, her gracious spirit, laugh, and love for Jesus left an impression on me that I’ll never shake.  Her music was the fruit of the deep, abiding relationship with the Lord.  May her legacy of worship bring you peace in this world, greater hope for the next, and a closeness to her (and our) Saviour, Jesus, as you listen to her music.

News from Mary Barrett

Though still dealing with the trials and pain of cancer, Mary Barrett is recording a new worship album in Nashville.  The YouTube video below is the first post on her new video blog, marybcd.  You can also keep updated on Mary at her website, marybarrett.com

Just a reminder, you can read a bit more about her on my previous posts, or listen to some of her songs in the Blue Music Box to the right.  Most of all, keep her and her family in prayer!  Thanks in advance to any and all readers for your interest, love, and prayers for Mary!

Pray for Mary Barrett

Mary (L) with her friend, and my Pastor’s wife, Kay

Please keep worship artist, Mary Barrett, in your prayers.  In a previous post, I shared about the Mary’s beautiful spirit and voice, and mentioned her progress in the fight against cancer.  Unfortunately, the cancer has returned and the prognosis is not good.  Thankfully, we have a loving Lord, who hears our prayers and is a very present help in times of trouble.  So please devote yourselves to pray for Mary and her husband, Joe, during this very difficult and challenging time.

As you pray, you can worship to “Amazing Grace”, sung by Mary, which I just posted in the blue Music Box to the right.  You can also hear her sing, “Be Still My Soul” and “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus”, both which are stored in the Music Box.

Look to Jesus–2

Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.”
Hebrews 12:2

There couldn’t be a better hymn than “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” to partner with Spurgeon’s exhortation to turn away from ourselves and look to Jesus.  The lyrics were written by Helen H. Lemmel in 1922, after she came upon a gospel track by missionary/artist Lilias Trotter, entitled “Focused.”  Ms. Trotter wrote:

“So then, turn your eyes upon Him, look full into His face and you will find that the things of earth will acquire a strange new dimness.”

Mary Barrett, Christian worship leader and cancer survivor, has recorded an acoustic version of this classic hymn, which you can listen to from my blue Music Box to the right.  Be blessed by her beautiful voice affirming the call to Turn Our Eyes on Jesus, and while you listen, meditate on the timeless words:

 Turn You Eyes Upon Jesus

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s a light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion—
For more than conquerors we are!

His Word shall not fail you—He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well:
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Worship with Mary Barrett

Our little fellowship was led into grand and inspirational worship yesterday, led by Mary Barrett of Calvary Chapel Merritt Island (FL).  The Lord inhabits the praises of His people!

An additional delight was meeting Mary personally, and seeing one who loves and worship her Lord even through intense trials.  Earlier this year she was diagnosed with carcinosarcoma, a rare life-threatening cancer which led to extensive surgery and chemotherapy.  Her little trip to our gathering in the Blue Ridge Mtns was on the heels of her 4th (and last!) chemo treatment!  According to her nursing staff, she’s officially a “cancer survivor.”  But more than that, Mary remains a servant of the Lord who is leaning on God’s Everlasting Arms.

If you’d like to learn more about Mary Barrett, her music, ministry, family, history with cancer, and most of all, her Lord, please visit her blog.   Right now you can worship along with her–just click on the blue Music Box at the top right of this page.  I’ve uploaded “Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus” and “Be Still My Soul”, from her “Hymns 2” CD.

Mary Barrett’s CDs can be purchased through ITunes, Footsteprecords, or Amazon.com.  Her music genre includes live contemporary worship, contemplative songs which she has composed, and beautiful renditions of numerous beloved hymns.  A special CD entitled “Worshiper,” is a compilation of all of these, and is available only through Footstep Records, with all proceeds going to the Mary Barrett Cancer Fund.  It’s just a little way to pass on the blessings she brings to others!

Most of all, keep her in prayer, that the Lord may grant her many more years to share with her husband, minister in music, and grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus. Thank you Lord!
