He Made a Wretch His Treasure

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief .“—I Tim. 1:15

Amazing Grace! how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me!!

Holy Week. Reflection. Worship.  And above all, Hope!  We have hope, through the pain and peril of the Cross, which changes us from sinners to sons, wretches to righteous.  As we look to the Cross, let us look deeper and further–before the Cross–to the love of the Father.  Love that determined to give His only, precious Son, from the foundation of the world.  Love beyond all measure!

How Deep the Father’s Love for Us
by Stuart Townsend

How deep the Father’s love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure

How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory.

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers.

It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished!

I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection!

Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom.

This powerful song of amazement and adoration, as recorded by Nichole Nordeman, can be heard in the Blue Music Box.  I always cry when I worship to this song!  Care to join me?
