No Fear in Love

There is no fear in love.

But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.  The one who fears is not made perfect in love.  We love because he first loved us.”
I John 4:18-19

Between now and Easter, I’d like to share some verses, devotionals and songs that point to the beauty of what Jesus accomplished for us through His death and resurrection.  One primary accomplishment was our unmerited release from punishment, judgement, and the resulting fear of both.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
John 3:16 (NIV)

Today’s song, available as a free download at Sovereign Grace Music, gives expression to my heart’s meditation:

Completely Done

What reason have I to doubt
Why would I dwell in fear
When all I have known is grace
My future in Christ is clear

My sins have been paid in full
There’s no condemnation here
I live in the good of this
My Father has brought me near
I’m leaving my fears behind me now

Chorus
The old is gone, the new has come
What You complete is completely done
We’re heirs with Christ, the victory won
What You complete is completely done

I don’t know what lies ahead
What if I fail again
You are my confidence
You’ll keep me to the end
I’m leaving my fears behind me now

The old is gone, the new has come
What You complete is completely done
We’re heirs with Christ, the victory won
What You complete is completely done

Last year, I shared a lot of my favourite hymns about the suffering and triumph of the Cross, and may “bring back” some of those this month.  What are some of your favourites??

  1. Because He Lives…I can face tomorrow! Because He Lives…all fear is GONE! Because I KNOW HE hold the future…and life is worth the living, just because He LIVES!!!

  2. Beautiful, Linda! Good word too. There are so many things I find myself fearing in life, though I’m better than I used to be in that regard. Maybe I’ve just changed the things I fear now. 🙂 I still need to fear less and trust more though.

My 2 all time favorites in that category are “Were You There” and “What Wondrous Love Is This?”

    Love,
    Anne

    • Yes, Gladwell, that one is beautiful, and it needs to be revived in our church worship! I haven’t heard or sung it since…..well, too long!

      Blessings and prayers, Linda
