What is God’s Will?

“Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.”  We pray this often, whether from the heart, or just repeating “The Lord’s Prayer.”   What is God’s Will?   Here’s just a start on God’s will as revealed in His Word:

                       God’s will is to…

Be kind                                      Show mercy

Be tender-hearted                     Forgive one another

Encourage one another today   Confess your sins

Love one another                      Endure hardship

Purse righteousness                 Rejoice always

Cast your cares on Him            Hold fast to the Word

Pursue peace                            In everything give thanks

Feed the poor                           Visit the sick

Remember those in prison       Abstain from every form of evil

Be patient with all                    Be harmonious

Abide in Christ                         Serve one another

Be hospitable                           Resist the devil

Put on a heart of compassion   Be humble

Be gentle                                   Fix your eyes on Jesus

Walk in the Light                       Look for the coming of the Lord

Fear God                                   Don’t neglect to do good

Obey leaders                             Pray for one another

Walk in the Spirit                      Bear one another’s burdens

Pray for others                          Be thankful

Be anxious for nothing             Pray about everything

Trust in the Lord                      Be filled with the Holy Spirit

Lay down you life                     Be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger

Put aside bitterness & anger    Let your light shine, so God may be glorified

Jesus summed these up, saying:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.”  Luke 10:27

But such an edict is impossible without abiding in Him, and He abiding, living in us:

“Abide in Me, and I in you.  As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you, unless you abide in Me.  I am the vine, you are the branches, He who abides in Me, and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me, you can do nothing.”  John 15: 4-5

“This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.”   John 15:12

Dear Lord, Abide in us, so we may love and serve you and others, for apart from You, we can do nothing.  It is quite sufficient for us to obey your revealed will.  We trust you with the myriad of cares, burdens, and questions unrevealed.  In your time, we will know as we are fully known.  Thank you Lord.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
