Lately, with the exception of John’s journal on Jesus’ prayer, I’ve strayed a bit from the intention of this website–to share God’s grace and unconditional love! One of my first posts was a YouTube video of Amazing Grace, by Chris Tomlin. But I didn’t post the words of the familiar hymn. Maybe it’s become too familiar; you know, the meaning perhaps lost in the over-play, whether it be in movies, bagpipes, ceremonies, etc? As a brief refresher, here are those memorable words penned by John Newton–but only the Lord can really take it from black and white, 1s and 0s, and make His grace abound in your heart.
by John Newton
Amazing Grace! how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see.
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed!
Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already come.
‘Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we first begun.
This is Grace:
“For God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.” 2 Cor. 8:9
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that’s not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.” Eph. 2:9
“and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross..” 1 Peter 2:24
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His one and only Son, that who ever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” 2 Cor.9:15
